Shimmering Shores of Vaadhoo Maldives
As if the islands of the Maldives weren’t already heaven on earth, come night time, Vaadhoo Island reveals another mystical surprise: Glowing blue waves, lapping the sandy shore, like something out of a fantasy land.
Where?
On Vaadhoo Island, one of the islands of Raa Atoll in the Maldives. It’s a tiny island with just over 500 inhabitants, but its Sea of Stars phenomenon has firmly planted it on the global map.
Why?
Plankton
How does it work?
It’s a natural chemical reaction with a fancy name, bioluminescence, which takes place when the water is disturbed by oxygen. Phytoplankton, the marine microorganisms in the water have a blue luminescence that occurs as they produce toxins that are harmful to fish, humans and other creatures, so though they look all pretty and magical, they’re actually not so friendly. The phytoplankton’s blue glow is like a defence mechanism which wards off other marine organisms from eating them. The phytoplankton will continue to glow inside the fish that eat them, which means, in turn, they will make bigger predators go after them. It's a catch 22 situation.
As for how the bioluminescence occurs, that’s where it gets complicated… As the phytoplankton float, movement in the water sends electrical impulses around a proton-filled compartment inside them; electrical pulses open the voltage-sensitive proton ion channels into scintillons (the flashing unit inside them.) The pH in the cytoplasm changes, creating a series of chemical reactions, which activate a protein called luciferase. When luciferase is mixed with oxygen, the neon blue light is created.
Is there anywhere else in the world quite like it?
Dinoflagellates — the ultra specific type of phytoplankton at Sea of Stars — aren’t the only ones to produce this beautiful bioluminescence. Other marine animals like krill, deep-sea squids, and anglerfish are also able to produce light. Within the Maldives you can see something similar on the islands of Mudhdhoo and Rangali. Similarly, bioluminescence has been seen on the shores of the Lakshadweep Islands in India, Mosquito Bay in Vieques, Puerto Rico, and on the coast of Leucadia in California.
I need to see it…
To the Maldives you go! Vaadhoo Island is a 15-minute speedboat ride away from the main international airport of Malé. Whilst the Maldives ain’t cheap, a sight like this is pretty damn priceless, right?

Jigsaw 2017 Download Brrip 700MB
Jigsaw 2017
Jigsaw is a 2017 American horror film directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, and starring Matt Passmore, Callum Keith Rennie, Clé Bennett, and Hannah Emily Anderson. It is the eighth installment in the Sawfranchise, picking up over a decade after the death of the eponymous Jigsaw killer, during the police investigation of a new succession of murders that fit his modus operandi. Saw 3D (2010) was originally deemed the final installment of the series, before Lionsgate Films commissioned the production of Jigsaw from a pitch by Stolberg and Goldfinger.
Filming began in November 2016, with post-production following in January. The film was released in the United States on October 27, 2017, received generally unfavorable reviews from critics, and grossed $102.9 million worldwide.
Criminal Edgar Munsen is pursued by the police onto a rooftop, where he activates a triggering mechanism before being shot non-fatally by Police Detective Halloran and his fellow officers.
Five people are held captive in a barn, each with a metal noose around their neck. A tape recording from John Kramer explains they must give a sacrifice of blood and will need to confess their sins. The chains begin pulling them towards a wall of buzzsaws. Four manage to survive by cutting themselves on the blades as an offering of blood, but one man who was unconscious during the majority of the game appears to die.
The next test divulges that group member Carly caused the death of an asthmatic woman by stealing her purse, which had her emergency inhaler inside. To save the others from being hanged, she must inject herself with one of the three needles- one containing an antidote to a poison in her system, one a saline solution, and one a potent acid. Volatile group member Ryan eventually stabs Carly with all three to save himself, melting her face and killing her.
Detectives Halloran and Hunt begin investigating the discovery of bodies that appear to belong to the unnamed man and Carly. Halloran becomes suspicious of forensic pathologistsLogan, a veteran and former doctor whose wife was killed two years prior, and Eleanor. Munsen is kidnapped from the hospital by an unseen assailant. When the police commissioner orders Kramer's grave be exhumed, Munsen's dead body is found inside instead.
Ryan tries escaping through a door marked "No Exit", and is trapped by wires that ensnare his leg. Fellow group members Anna and Mitch discover an unlocked door, and are trapped inside a grain silo. A taped message explains they will be buried in grain and killed by falling debris unless Ryan pulls a lever that will free him from the wires around his leg. Anna and Mitch survive, but Ryan's leg is severed when he pulls the lever.
Logan and Eleanor speak about their mutual distrust of Halloran. Eleanor takes Logan to her "studio" where she reveals that she is an obsessive fangirl of the Jigsaw case, and has built replicas of Kramer's traps. She's worried her obsession might incriminate her. Detective Hunt has followed them, and informs Halloran of the studio.
The next test reveals Mitch knowingly sold a motorcycle with a faulty brake to Kramer's nephew, resulting in his death. Mitch will be lowered into a spiral-shaped blade unless he can reach for a brake lever. Though fellow group-member Anna attempts to help him, he is shredded by the blade and killed.
Halloran calls for Eleanor and Logan's arrest after a corpse appearing to belong to Mitch is discovered in the studio. Logan convinces Hunt to let them go, as both suspect Halloran to be responsible. Eleanor has deduced the game's location, and she and Logan depart for the barn. Halloran pursues them. Meanwhile, Hunt finds puzzle-piece shaped pieces of human flesh in Halloran's freezer, fitting Jigsaw's M.O. and implicating Halloran as a copycat killer.
Anna attempts to slip through a doorway to freedom, only to be captured. She finds herself and Ryan chained in a room with a hooded figure, who is revealed to be a still-living John Kramer. Kramer reveals that Anna suffocated her infant in a fit of rage and blamed it on her sleeping husband by planting the body next to him. Her husband later committed suicide, thinking he accidentally smothered his own baby.
It is also revealed that Ryan accidentally caused the death of several of his friends years prior in a car accident but managed to escape blame. Kramer tells them they have gotten his message "backwards". He places a loaded shotgun between them and tells them it is the "key" to their survival. Anna attempts to shoot Ryan, but the gun, which is revealed to be rigged, backfires and instead kills her. Ryan realizes that the keys to his and Anna's chains were in the gun, and destroyed when Anna pulled the trigger, leaving no hope of escape.
Logan and Eleanor investigate the barn, but are ambushed by Halloran. Eleanor escapes, and Halloran is drugged by an unseen assailant.
Logan and Halloran awaken in collars rigged with laser cutters. They are told they must confess their sins to survive and may choose who goes first. Halloran forces Logan to go first. Logan confesses that he mislabeled Kramer's X-Rays years prior, which caused his cancer to go undiagnosed until it was too late.
Despite confessing, Logan appears to die. Halloran is tested next. He admits to having allowed criminals to walk free for personal gain, and his collar deactivates.
Suddenly Logan stands, revealing that he faked his death in order to get Halloran to confess, and that the barn game in fact took place ten years ago. He was the man who appeared to die in the first game, but Kramer, feeling he should not die because of an honest mistake, saved him. John took Logan on as his first apprentice. The bodies that were found were actually the bodies of criminals Halloran allowed to walk free. Logan placed them into the same tests that he was meant to face ten years prior. Logan also reveals that Munsen, one of the criminals Halloran let go, was responsible for murdering his wife.
However, because Halloran didn't confess all of his sins, and broke the rules to force Logan to go first, he will die and be framed as the new Jigsaw. Logan reactivates the laser-collar around Halloran's neck and his head is sliced apart, killing him. Having succeeded in his plan, Logan declares that he speaks for the dead.

Kim Kardashian Is Excited for Chicago to Be BFFs With Kylie Jenner's Newborn Daughter
Kim Kardashian Is Excited for Chicago to Be BFFs With Kylie Jenner's Newborn Daughter
Now that the cat's out of the bag, Kim Kardashian, who welcomed newborn daughter Chicago West last month, took to her website on Monday to officially gush over her youngest sister Kylie Jenner's own newborn daughter, whose name has yet to be revealed, after the 20-year-old reality star finally confirmed yesterday the secret that she'd been hiding from the world for months.
The day after the news broke, Kim, whose baby girl was also debuted yesterday, wrote about her excitement over the fact that their daughters were born weeks apart.
The mom of three wrote, "Mommy Kylie!!! You did it!!! I'm so incredibly proud of the woman you have grown up to be and I know that you are going to be the best mom to your new baby girl! Our girls are two weeks apart and I can’t wait for them to be besties!"
Kim added, "I am so proud that you do what you want to do and live your life the way you want, you will pass down all of those amazing qualities to your baby girl. You were made to be a mom! I love you!"
Despite months and months of speculation, Ky never confirmed or posted about her pregnancy—until Sunday when she boldly announced she'd given birth to a daughter with boyfriend Travis Scott.
"I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions," she said on Instagram on Sunday. "I understand you're used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness."
"Pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life-changing experience I've had in my entire life and I'm actually going to miss it," she said. "I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could. My beautiful and healthy baby girl arrived February 1st and I just couldn't wait to share this blessing. I've never felt love and happiness like this I could burst! Thank you for understanding."
She and her 25-year-old beau were romantically linked back in April 2017, but she'd yet to publicly comment on their romance until yesterday when she also posted a PDA-filled video, entitled "To Our Daughter," chronicling her secret pregnancy journey.
Uma Thurman Shares Dramatic Footage From Kill Bill Stunt Gone Wrong
Uma Thurman Shares Dramatic Footage From Kill Bill Stunt Gone Wrong
Uma Thurman's new Instagram is shedding more light into the actress' experience on the Kill Bill set.
On Monday afternoon, the Hollywood star shared video of what she claims is from the 2003 movie directed by Quentin Tarantino.
"I post this clip to memorialize its full exposure in the New York Times by Maureen Dowd. The circumstances of this event were negligent to the point of criminality. I do not believe though with malicious intent," she explained to her followers. "Quentin Tarantino, was deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event, and gave me the footage years later so I could expose it and let it see the light of day, regardless of it most likely being an event for which justice will never be possible."
Uma continued, "He also did so with full knowledge it could cause him personal harm, and I am proud of him for doing the right thing and for his courage."
Over the weekend, the New York Times published an article where Uma recalled being injured in a Kill Bill car stunt, which she said the director pressured her to perform herself. She said she was left with a "permanently damaged neck" and "screwed-up knees."
"Quentin and I had an enormous fight, and I accused him of trying to kill me," she said. "And he was very angry at that, I guess understandably, because he didn't feel he had tried to kill me."
Quentin has not responded to multiple requests for comment on Uma's allegations.
In her latest Instagram, Uma also slams Kill Bill producer Lawrence Bender, executive producer E. Bennett Walsh and Harvey Weinstein claiming they are part of a "cover up." Harvey in particular strongly denies the claims.
"THE COVER UP after the fact is UNFORGIVABLE," Uma shared in her latest Instagram. "They lied, destroyed evidence, and continue to lie about the permanent harm they caused and then chose to suppress. The cover up did have malicious intent, and shame on these three for all eternity."
- She added, "CAA never sent anyone to Mexico. I hope they look after other clients more respectfully if they in fact want to do the job for which they take money with any decency."
- Lawrence and E. Bennett did not immediately return E! News' request for comment regarding the alleged "cover up." A spokesperson for Harvey, however, denies the claims made in Uma's Instagram.
- "Harvey has tremendous affection for Uma Thurman nevertheless he denies these allegations. He did not give instructions to destroy the vehicle or orchestrate a cover-up and this is the first time he has learned that Ms. Thurman had any issues regarding the handling of her accident. In fact, she continued working with Mr. Weinstein on three more films, including The War with Grandpa which was scheduled to be released this year," the statement read. "Ms. Thurman has reported in the past that that Mr. Weinstein personally came on set during the filming of the scene where she was being buried alive, concerned with her well-being, he demanded that they reconfigure the shot to her approval so that she felt more comfortable."
- The statement continued, "We understand that members of the production team have stated to individuals in the media that Mr. Weinstein had nothing to do with the aftermath of the crash. Mr. Weinstein wishes Ms. Thurman would have spoken to him at the time to express her concerns and would like for her to provide any additional details so that he can assist in closing and repairing this chapter of her life. Once again, he is remorseful and regrets making a pass at her in England."
- Over the weekend, Harvey's lawyer also said his client "is stunned and saddened by what he claims to be false accusations by Uma Thurman, someone he has worked closely with for more than two decades."
- "Ms Thurman's statements to the Times are being carefully examined and investigated before deciding whether any legal action against her would be appropriate," his lawyer added.
- As for Uma's Kill Bill co-star Vivica A. Fox, she is expressing her support to the actress for sharing her story.
"It is a testament to Uma's strength as an artist that even with all those added burdens, she was able to make the Kill Bill saga achieve the greatness that she envisioned for it," she said in a statement to NBC News. "I love her and I support her always."
Dinosaurs Face Extinction (Again) in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer
Dinosaurs Face Extinction (Again) in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer
The dinosaurs are in danger.
While some fans tuned in to Super Bowl LII to watch the New England Patriots play the Philadelphia Eagles, movie buffs were excited to see the second trailer for Universal Pictures' Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom debut on NBC Sunday. Debuting in theaters June 22, it stars Geraldine Chaplin, James Cromwell, Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Jones, Ted Levine, Daniella Pineda, Chris Pratt, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall and BD Wong.
Directed by J.A. Bayona and written by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, the movie picks up four years after the theme park and luxury resort was destroyed by dinosaurs on the loose. Now, Isla Nublar sits abandoned while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungle.
With the island's volcano ready to erupt, Owen Grady (Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Howard) decided to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from extinction. Owen, in particular, wants to find Blue, his lead raptor who's still missing in the wild. During their expedition, they discover a conspiracy that could return the planet to a "perilous order not seen since prehistoric times."
All that begs the question—do the dinosaurs need saving, or does the human race? As Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) warns, "These creatures were here before us, and if we're not careful, they are going to be here after. Life cannot be contained. Life breaks free. Life finds a way."

Niche Caldwell and Kaylin Jurrjens Are Taking Their Careers to the Big Apple on WAGS Atlanta: ''I've Worked So Hard For This''
On this week's two-part WAGS Atlanta, the ladies are all making some pretty big moves, but it may not always be for the best. Kaylin Jurrjens and Niche Caldwell are both headed to the Big Apple for some huge career opportunities.
Niche has been offered the chance to walk in a major fashion show during New York Fashion Week, which will mark a triumphant return to the runway after taking 10 years off to support her husband and raise her children. "I don't have moments. It's just work, my interior design business, my kids going to school, my husband's career—that was 10 years and I never said I'm tired of this.
I never said, ‘Can we do something for me?' I never said that," Niche shared. "Now that he's done with football and he's moved into this chapter, I'm like, maybe now it's time for my new chapter."
It looks like things might be turning around for her. But she won't be the only one in New York, because Kaylin will be interviewing people on the red carpet.
"This is my big opportunity to launch the next part of my career," Kaylin shared. "I've worked so hard for this. I'm nervous, but I'm like, this is happening." Although Kaylin's first night was a little rough and involved her forgetting some important names, she hit it out of the park on her second carpet and Jair Jurrjens surprised her to show his support.
Back in Atlanta, Brandi Rhodes was busy at work too. She's currently trying to make a name for herself beyond just being the wife of Cody Rhodes. All the girls came out to support her big match, but sadly, she lost. But don't count her out just yet!
"Even though it was a physical loss, it was a mental win for me," Brandi said. "It just showed me that I could step out on my own, blaze my own path as a wrestler by being Brandi Rhodes and my own brand." Go, Brandi! Go!
One WAG who's preparing for a big change is Telli Swift. She's still not done having a conversation with Deontay Wilder about marriage and this time, she means business. "I do so much as a woman for this man and I just feel like he doesn't want to get married to me," she said.
Telli is over talking about their relationship issues and she's ready to take some action. "I just feels like it needs to happen. I don't know what to do. So maybe I should move out so he knows I'm serious," Telli shared. Could this be the thing Deontay needs to convince him to propose?

Avengers 3 : Infinity War part 1
Avengers 3 :Infinity War
Between the movies, the one shots, the limited-series and the television shows, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly growing bigger and bigger week to week - and it's all headed in a rather epic direction. As confirmed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, everything we've seen so far in the comic book movie world has been building towards a massive big screen battle against the alien warlord known as Thanos, and that huge event will unfold in 2018's The Avengers: Infinity War.
But who amongst the established heroes and villains in the MCU can we expect to see pop up in the movie? Who are the filmmakers responsible for making it? Well, to organize all of that key information we have put together this handy guide which we'll keep updating to let you know the latest info about the giant blockbuster. So read on - but first, give the ridiculously fantastic debut trailer for The Avengers: Infinity War a watch!
What Is The Infinity War Release Date?
As was announced in October 2014, Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018. Originally, this story was believed to unfold across two movies, as the fourth Avengers movie was titled Infinity War: Part 2. However, directors Joe and Anthony Russo (more on them in a bit) later said that the titles were "misleading," and that eventually they would be changed. That eventually proved true, as in late August 2016 Marvel dropped the Part 1 from the third Avengers movie, thus resulting in Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers 4 still doesn't have an official title. There will still be some "cross pollination" between the two movies, but look at them now as separate and distinct movies.
What Is The Infinity War Rating?
No official rating has been announced yet, but it's a good bet that Avengers: Infinity War will follow in the footsteps of the other MCU movies and be rated PG-13. Granted, the violence will almost assuredly be the most intense we've seen yet in this franchise, but it won't be worthy of being slapped with an R-rating, just to ensure that younger fans can enjoy the experience as well. They'll throw in a few curse words and some suggestive material, but probably no more than the usual content found in a Marvel movie.
The Writers And The Directors
Marvel Studios seems to have a lot of trust in the abilities of the directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo and writing pair Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. After the latter duo wrote the much-praised script for Captain America: The First Avenger, the four men first worked together on Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That was such a massive success that they were re-teamed for Captain America: Civil War; and with that track record Marvel Studios trusted nobody else to make The Avengers: Infinity War. The 2018 film should definitely be a totally different beast than the previous works of the filmmakers, given that they are working with dozens and dozens of established characters, but there's little reason to doubt that they'll come up with something wildly impressive.
Iron Man
Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) served as the antagonist of Captain America: Civil War, enforcing the new legislation requiring that all superhero folk be regulated. This led to him squaring off against Captain America and the other anti-registration heroes in a battle of ideological differences, an the ending him emotionally scarred after discovering that Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) killed his parents. He's dealing with Steve Rogers' betrayal, and was left in a vulnerable spot. Since then we have seen him get some of his mojo back, helping Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) unlock his incredible potential, and it's even possible that when we next see him he will be married to Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow) - according to the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. All the same, it's not exactly going to be easy for him to work with a lot of his fellow Avengers following their massive fallout, but they'll need to if they want to have any chance in the fight against Thanos (Josh Brolin)
Captain America
Following the battle against A.I. gone mad in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America (Chris Evans) returned to the big screen in May 2016 for Captain America: Civil War, where he led the charge against the Sokovia Accords and superhero registration. Despite rumors that he would die at the end of the conflict, similar to what happened in the comics, Steve Rogers made it out alive, though he and his allies through the skirmish are now considered criminals by the world's governments (thanks to the fact that Cap freed them all from The Raft prison where they were being held). Even though he's on the run, there's no reason to believe that Captain America has stopped protecting the innocent on their own terms, and fighting Thanos will certainly be a big part of that mission. He'll be sporting a very different look in The Avengers: Infinity War, complete with a full fugitive beard, but there's no doubt that his moral compass will point true north as always.
Chris Evans will appear as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 - which it's been said will complete the actor's contract with Marvel Studios. This leaves us wondering if the two big blockbusters could feature the end of the character's run on the big screen, but that's just speculation for now.
Thor
Like Captain America, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be carrying a lot of baggage going into The Avengers: Infinity War, but it is of a much different variety. In Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder not only witnessed the death of his father, but also the titular apocalyptic event. Fortunately, Thor was able to save most of the Asgardians before the destruction, shepherding them onto a space ship, but that didn't result in them being totally out of the woods. Instead, the mid-credits sequence showed us that there is a very real threat lurking in the cosmos, and judging by the Infinity War footage that was shown at D23/San Diego Comic-Con 2017 (where Thor was shown floating out in space), it looks like the hero and his people are anything but safe.
The Hulk
At the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) flew away from his fellow Avengers in a Quinjet, and his whereabouts afterwards were a mystery. It turns out, as revealed in Thor: Ragnarok, that he landed on the alien planet Sakaar and had a rather life changing experience becoming a champion gladiator and learning how to (somewhat) properly speak. Over all Bruce Banner spent nearly two full years in his green monster form, and the effect is a created imbalance in the relationship between the two personas. At the end of the third Thor movie, Banner is afraid that turning into Hulk once more could be permanent - though his appearances in the Avengers: Infinity War trailer suggest he found a way to change back.
Outside of the fact that he apparently at one point comes crashing down through the roof of Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum, Hulk info isn't exactly plentiful right now where the Joe and Anthony Russo film is concerned. That said, Mark Ruffalo did confirm to us that his parts in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 together form a three-act arc that operates as its own "standalone Hulk story."

Need for Speed: Payback Crack Download
Need for Speed: Payback PC 3dm Crack Download
Electronic Arts’ arcade-style racing franchise Need For Speed has been around since 1994, but recent outings have earned it a reputation as the videogame equivalent of a Dan Brown book. That’s because it sells fantastically well, but nobody can fathom why. How refreshing it would be to assert that the latest iteration, Payback, marks a triumphant return to form for the series. But alas, having played it, that would be an impossibility.
The Need For Speed games have had various high points in the past such as 2010’s Hot Pursuit and 2013’s Rivals, but the series’ most recent outing, a reboot released in 2015, attracted a critical mauling mainly due to its annoying online-only structure.
Both Hot Pursuit and Rivals were made by Criterion, British developer of the revered Burnout series of games. The shadow of the far superior Burnout – an IP still owned, although apparently shelved, by Need For Speed publisher EA – still looms large over the Need For Speed series, and the likes of Microsoft’s Forza Horizon games have offered stiff opposition recently.
Taking on The House
Past Need For Speed games often featured a cops versus robbers theme, but Payback eschews that in favour of street-racing – along similar lines to Rockstar Games’ much-loved but now dormant Midnight Club franchise. Payback’s action takes place in Fortune City, loosely based on Las Vegas (although, mercifully, with much more elevation changes than its real-life counterpart).
The main character you play is Tyler Morgan, an aspiring street-racer who becomes indebted to a casino-owner whose Koenigsegg – which Morgan was driving – is stolen by a woman called Lina Morgan, who runs Fortune City’s street-racing scene for an organisation called The House. Morgan assembles a crew whose motivation is to get revenge against Navarro and take down The House.
One of the reasons that Need For Speed: Payback creates a poor first impression is that it plunges you into its unrelentingly embarrassing story. The characters are either terminally dull, downright annoying, or both. Making matters worse is the fact that whenever you get to an interesting point in a story-mission – such as having to nail a precise jump – the action is taken out of your hands and a cut-scene kicks in. Payback is clearly attempting to attract an audience addicted to movies like Fast & Furious, but it fails spectacularly, in a great, whiffy cloud of amateurishness and dialogue that Michael Bay would reject for being too basic.
The daily grind
While the story missions are something to be endured, there’s better news elsewhere: you must grind to unlock each story chapter and, for once, the grinding is the most enjoyable part of a game. Payback isn’t an intrinsically bad game: its open-world is large and varied, and the cars handle as you would expect in an arcade-oriented game. Although the off-roaders have an annoying tendency towards fish-tailing, for the most part the cars are satisfyingly tail-happy and eager to drift, so you can turn in early and back them into corners, Ridge Racer-style.
You do get the odd sequence where you must fight off cop-cars, and there's a mechanic which lets you barge into them, sending them off the road into spectacular Hollywood-style pile-ups (although the game doesn’t dwell on those as much as it should). Overall though Payback’s vehicular combat system completely lacks the precision of the one found in the decade old Burnout games. The sheer glee associated with the sort of maniacal driving you could pull off in games like Burnout is completely absent from Need For Speed: Payback.
At least there’s plenty to do in Payback’s open-world, including street racing, off-road racing, drifting and drag-racing missions. You can earn experience points by racing through speed-cameras, jumping through billboards, catching air off jump-ramps, time-trials along stretches of road, collecting giant chips and racing ghosts of real-life players. There are derelict cars to find, which can be customised into absolute beasts. But every element of Payback’s open-world can be traced back to another game, like some box-ticking exercise. Its design by committee at its worst, and its one of the game's biggest problems.
Not so finely tuned
Customisation is key to any game that aspires to excite wannabe street-racers, and Payback does contain some interesting customisation systems. There’s a decent visual customisation engine – performing spectacular moves in the game unlocks spoilers, side-skirts and the like, and you can tinker around with decals and paint-jobs to your heart’s content.
But at the heart of Payback lies its mechanical upgrade system, which takes the form of a trading card game. It's not ideal, and the presence of this element merely smacks of marketing departments looking at how much a young audience is spending on the likes of Hearthstone (something of which Forza Motorsport 7 is also guilty).
Unless you go to Tune-up Shops and spend in-game currency on Speed Cards, you’ll soon find yourself up against much faster cars. Naturally, you can spend real money on Speed Cards if you can’t be bothered to grind – or can’t quite fathom the unnecessarily complex and utterly unengaging Speed Card system.
There is one interesting idea in Need For Speed: Payback: before each event, you can put money on a side-bet, which adds extra targets for that event. However, even that could have been improved if it the target was adjusted according to the rating of your car, and whether or not you were struggling to win that event. Incidentally, you have to win all the events to advance the story, so if you aren’t keen, say, on the drifting side of the game, you’re a bit stuffed.
Verdict: Don't play it
It will be fascinating to see how well Need For Speed: Payback sells. It is, for example, much less fun to play than Forza Horizon 3, which has been out for a while and can be found cheaply. No doubt EA’s marketing machine will kick into overdrive on Payback’s behalf, but those who buy it will surely find it soulless at best, and positively annoying in parts at worst.
But the same could have been said about previous Need For Speed games, which nevertheless shifted millions of units. However, surely the Need For Speed franchise is now one flop away from a radical reappraisal? If only EA would abandon it in favour of a revival of Burnout.

Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie to Present Golden Globes
Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie to Present at the 2018 Golden Globes
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been slowly rolling out the list of presenters for the 2018 Golden Globes, and in the last day, four new actresses have been added to the mix: Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren and Emma Stone.
Aniston and Jolie, who share a mutual ex in Brad Pitt, rarely attend the same events—but this year's award ceremony is all about women coming together, thanks to the #MeToo and Time's Up movements, and it's message is bigger than the tabloid stories they've both worked so hard to ignore over the years.
Aniston recently donated $500,000 to the Time's Up GoFundMe campaign; the money is going toward a legal defense fund, providing subsidized assistance to men and women who suffer sexual abuse, assault or harassment while at work—regardless of the industry they all work in.
Jolie, meanwhile, was among the dozens of actresses who publicly spoke out against disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. "I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did," Jolie told The New York Times. "This behavior towards women in any field, any country is unacceptable."
The Time's Up campaign also asked those walking the red carpet at Sunday's Golden Globes to wear black. "This is a moment of solidarity, not a fashion moment. For years, we've sold these awards shows as women, with our gowns and colors and our beautiful faces and our glamour. This time the industry can't expect us to go up and twirl around," actress and producer Eva Longoria told The New York Times earlier in the week. "That's not what this moment is about."
"I think that the biggest thing will just be hitting the right tone," host Seth Meyers told Ellen DeGeneres yesterday. "But also, we don't want to ignore the things that will happen this year."
Here is the complete list of 2018 Golden Globes presenters:
